Bird-A-Thon is a 24-hour birding event to introduce people to the pleasures of birding as well as improve the skills of those already involved.. It is also a major fund raising event to support Habitat and Mass Audubon. You can make a donation, join a team and ask your family and friends to support your efforts, or participate in the program described below. Plum Island is a natural barrier island stretching 8.5 miles south along the Atlantic coast from the mouth of the Merrimack River. It is part of the Atlantic migratory bird flyway and is an excellent place to see a large variety of shorebirds, raptors and songbirds including many spring migrants heading north to breeding grounds. Expect to see 75-90 species. Registration is required. Call (617) 489-5050 for details. See http://www.massaudubon.org/catalog/listing.php?program_code=1354-HA12SP1 for more information.
