Throughout the twentieth century artists worked with mundane materials to explore unique visual effects. The incorporation of uncharacteristically banal elements into 'high art' drew attention to the works' raw materiality. This Gallery Talk, given by graduate student lecturer Martina Tanga will explore the conception and reaction to these initially controversial pieces. Most of the work that we will examine comes from the Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art.
