Leaders in Training is a camp program in which young teenagers learn about conservation while developing important leadership traits. Campers will gain confidence in themselves, while making new friends and discovering new talents!
Leadership is a valuable skill that campers can use throughout their lives. LITs will learn what leadership means, the traits and practices of effective leaders and why leadership is so important. Each day LITs will participate in team building activities, fun leadership games and workshops. Throughout the week they will practice these skills within the group and in the larger camp community. LITs will create, plan, and present their own programs and a special event for the entire camp.
LITs will explore conservation and the roles people play in the environmental field. Each week campers will visit a different site to learn about conservation effort across the state. LITs will meet with experts in the field, take part in the experiments of ongoing conservation efforts and work alongside other conservation groups. Activities may include bird banding, tagging butterflies, rapid ecological assessments and other exciting field projects. The four weeks will culminate in a conservation project created by the LITs either for the BNC or a surrounding neighborhood.
Each week will have a different theme and content. More details coming soon.
