The Amos A. Lawrence Elementary School, a 19th century red brick three-story building located in a residential neighborhood in the eastern part of Brookline, is a K-8 school with three self-contained classrooms at most grade levels. A major renovation in 1972 upgraded the infrastructure and expanded classroom space while preserving the design integrity of the original building.
Beyond its regular instructional program, the Lawrence School is the site of a Japanese bilingual program, an Extended Day program, an off-campus Homework Center, a Japanese Exchange Program involving an internet link, and a Title 1 Program. It is a lively, welcoming school which provides a stimulating learning environment for its students and staff. Active, productive parent involvement has always been a hallmark of the Lawrence School either through traditional parent/school organizations or special task forces and committees convened by the Superintendent. Over 35% of the student population, representing 24 different language groups, come from homes where English is not the first language. All of Lawrence School's K-8 classrooms are enriched by the ideas and differing values of students from 38 nations.
