Elusive Originals: Greek Bronze Statues and Roman Marble Copies

Thursday, Mar 22 6:00p
Price: Free admission
Age Suitability: None Specified

When we speak of Greek bronze originals and Roman marble copies, we may not be taking into consideration the importance of ancient technologies and the ancient marketplace. What is a true Greek bronze "original," and was there a market for copies in Greece as well as in Rome? This lecture will explore the relationships between technology and market demand in the classical world, and address the influence of newly discovered statues upon modern interpretations of ancient bronze statuary.
