A Survey of Traditional and Contemporary Documentary Photography

How does documentary photography document, mean, persuade, interpret, and create? How do photojournalism, documentary, and fine art photography relate to each other? How does digital technology influence documentary photography? We'll draw from the work of Louis Daguerre, Roger Fenton, Felix Nadar, Matthew Brady and photo collectives such as Magnum, Afrapix, Social Documentary Net, VII, and Activestills. Through photo presentations and discussions we will explore these topics.
