Edward Lodi, author of nearly two dozen books--most recently, Secrets and Shortcuts for Successful Writing: You Can Learn from My Mistakes--will share techniques that will get the average person started and will provide insights, as well as secrets and shortcuts, that will guarantee writing success.
Topics include, but are not limited to, writer’s block, ways to get started, where to get ideas, where and when to write, point of view, pacing, conflict, dialogue, characterization, how to apply the techniques of fiction to non-fiction, and the differences between verse and poetry. The speaker welcomes questions and allows for a question and answer period at the end of the talk.
Edward Lodi holds a Master’s Degree in English Literature and has taught at the college level. His works include fiction (novels and short stories), nonfiction (memoirs, folklore, history, a nature journal), a book of nautical expressions, poetry, and humorous verse. For many years he was a book reviewer for The Armchair Detective. His “writing tips” have appeared in numerous journals. He has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize for his poetry, and several of his works have won cash prizes. He has been writing full-time for the past fourteen years. He is also an accomplished editor. In 1999 he and his wife, Yolanda, started their own publishing company and have published (and edited) more than fifty books.
