Saturday Teacher Workshop: Animals In Winter & Tracking

Looking for more in-class activities, lesson plans, science experiments that focus on the natural world? These four-hour workshops begin at the Joppa Flats Education Center, where you'll share what you know, what you do, and what you need. We then dive into all our available resources from books to biological supplies and search through our many activity kits and curriculum to find exactly what you can use in your classroom for your specific grade! We'll spend the rest of the time outdoors, where we'll guide you through a series of activities relating to our workshop topic while teaching all about the ecology and sharing new knowledge with you to take back to the classroom. Participants will gain new knowledge, increase their environmental awareness, and gain confidence about how they teach their students about the natural world and its creatures. You'll walk away with many new and exciting lesson plans, classroom projects, and a greater understanding of the importance of connecting children to nature.
These in-the-field workshops are for teachers, science curriculum specialists, administrators, and naturalists with a focus on PreK-Grade 5 curriculum. You may register for one or more of the workshops.
Participants wishing to receive PDPs will need to develop an in-class project upon completing the three-part series. Total workshop and project time equals 15 hours. The fee includes training handouts, activity sheets, suggested reading lists, educational tools, a list of resources, and the Mass Audubon member newsletter and program catalog.
