Forty synchronized skating teams will take the ice at the third annual New England Challenge Cup from 2-8pm on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Ned O'Brien Ice Rink, 55 Locust Circle, Woburn.
Skating to hit music in glittering costumes, teams from beginner to collegiate to masters levels from New England, New York, Philadelphia, Quebec and beyond will showcase their 2012 competitive programs. There will be exhibition performances by the 2011 world bronze medalists and US Figure Skating national champion Haydenettes and junior-level Lexettes.
Synchronized skating, which combines elements from ice dance and pairs skating into a team performance characterized by speed, intricate formations and challenging footwork, is the fastest growing division of figure skating.
The event is hosted by the Hayden Figure Skating Club of Lexington, Mass. Tickets will be sold at the door. Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for senior citizens, children under 12 and college students with valid ID. There is ample free parking.
